Individual Acts

Consider these Individual Acts to Care for the River

  1. Be aware not to step or damage vegetation along the Truckee River.

  2. Practice “Responsible Giving” by dropping off your donations to others at Reno-Sparks Gospel Mission or Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada instead of leaving it along the Truckee River.

  3. Along the Truckee River and at home, use biodegradable cleaning products and earth-friendly body products. These products, when used, get washed down the drain and back to the river.

  4. Use water wisely. Here are a few ways you can save water:

      1. Use your washing machine and dishwasher when it is full.

      2. Take shorter showers. A 10-minute shower uses 50-gallons of water.

      3. Turn off the water while you’re brushing your teeth.

      4. Turn off lights when not in use and unplug chargers. Energy production requires water to cool thermal power plants and for extraction, transport, and processing in fuel production.

      5. Participate in Meatless Mondays. It takes about 600 gallons of water to make a hamburger patty due to the amount of water used to grow feed crops and water cattle.

  5. Talk with your friends, neighbors, and colleagues about the Truckee River, share concerns and possible solutions with them.
